When school starts: it depends where you live
The first day of school is set by each region, state or school district: in Italy between 5 and 16 September, in the UK in early September, in most of the US between early August and early September. That's why the calculator asks for the date: find it on your school's or region's calendar, and the countdown does the rest.
How to use the count
- Summer homework: divide the pages left by the days left and you know how much to do each day.
- Books and supplies: order them keeping an eye on the working days, the ones that count for deliveries.
- Last days of holiday: copy the sentence with the count and share it with the family.
Other school-year dates
In Italy lessons end between 6 and 10 June (see the "last day of school" page); Christmas holidays usually run from 23 December to 6 January, Easter holidays from the Thursday before to the Tuesday after Easter.

Frequently asked questions
Why do I have to enter the date myself?
Because every region, state or district sets a different date, which changes every year. 15 September is only a placeholder: replace it with the date on your school calendar.
Where do I find the date?
On your school's website or on the regional/state school calendar.
Does the count include the first day of school?
No: it counts the whole days left. The evening before it shows "1 day".
